What to pack for my Riviera Maya vacation

Adventure essentials

Top 7 things you need when traveling in nature

The best thing to have if you are about to travel is an adventurous spirit, but there are other essentials that will become very useful when abroad, especially if you’re coming to Cancun & Riviera Maya. Here I share with you the top 7 things you must have for your next vacation in paradise:

  1. Watersports clothing. Riviera Maya is without a doubt a water destination. Beautiful beaches in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, Tulum, Isla Mujeres & Cozumel; gorgeous lagoons such as Bacalar and Nichupté; and incredible water parks like Xcaret, Xel-Há, Xplor & Xenotes. Thus, a nice bathing suit is necessary, but if you really want to be comfortable and protect your skin from sunlight, I recommend using watersports clothing. Lycra shirts, shorts and a pair of water shoes will become your allies.

  1. Waterproof camera. A camera is a must in any vacation, but a waterproof camera is a good asset to add to your wish list. You can find a great variety of waterproof cameras, some of them are even shockproof and are capable of handling extreme weather conditions–whether it’s just for pictures or video capabilities as well. You can also find plenty of accessories for them, such as floating cases, head bands, and even extensible poles to strike the best selfie.

  1. Biodegradable sunscreen. Tanning in the Riviera Maya is a must-do, but you still have to protect your skin from harmful sun rays, so make sure you bring enough sunblock. Since this is a water destination there’s life everywhere, so please keep that in mind and buy a biodegradable or chemical-free sunblock. This will help protect our environment, your skin from harmful chemicals, smell nice and leave your skin oil-free.

  1. Portable USB charger. The ideal scenery would be to enjoy vacations and disconnect from technology, but I know that’s a hard challenge. When we travel, we still like to keep in touch and share with our friends, so running out of battery on our cell phones or tablets it’s almost a slow death. So, for all you tech lovers out there, here’s a solution: portable USB chargers. They come in a variety of models and sizes and work for a lot of different gadgets. Using one may extend your gadget’s battery life to a double basis so you will have plenty of battery to share all those great photos with the hashtag #funforthesoul .

  1. Waterproof case/cover. Speaking of technology, we may find that in the near future everything will be waterproof, but in the meantime you’ll have to protect all your belongings from getting soaked. I recommend you bring waterproof covers or cases, which are made mostly of soft or hard plastic, you’ll find them in all sizes and for all purposes; money, cell-phones, tablets, documents or jewelry.

  1. Sunglasses. A pair of fancy sunglasses is always a good match for your amazing bathing suit, right? Asides from looking fantastic, you’re supposed to be thinking about taking care of your eyes. Sun exposure is dangerous for both our skin and our eyes. Look for sunglasses with special UV protection, don’t worry, you’ll look fabulous.

  1. Insect repellent. In a destination full of water and wildlife, mosquitos are almost everywhere. But don’t worry, they won’t bite if you don’t allow them. Make sure to bring insect repellent. You’ll find both biodegradable sunscreen and insect repellent at Xcaret, Xplor, Xel-ha & Xenotes.

With all your gadgets and essentials packed, you’re ready for the best vacation in the Riviera Maya. Even when we’re very connected globally, remember to take a moment (or two or three) to enjoy your surroundings and your company.
